Celts in Gainesville

After an uneventful week at work, I spent my Saturday at the North Georgia Celtic Festival. I headed to Gainesville with Suzan and our friend Alice, who had heard about the festival on-line. We opted for the festival instead of pruning hedges under the burning rays of Mister Sun.
Three Weird Sisters played … they’re one of my favorite local bands, along with being friends. There were a variety of very talented performers, such as Emerald Rose and The Border Collies. Despite the summer heat, we managed to enjoy the music using the shade of well placed trees.

Gainesville, Georgia may not be the first place you think of when looking for a Celtic festival, but it was a really good show. The festival was well organized and well attended, mostly due to the fan base of participating bands (websites are wonderful things). The Georgia Mountains Center is very nice, and within walking distance of the city square.

Rather than battle the mob assembled for dinner at the Mall of Georgia, we had dinner at Two Dog Cafe in the city square. Three words for you … Shrimp and Grits (I like shrimp, and that’s all I have to say about that).

Now I spend a lazy Sunday watching Iron Chef and being thankful I did not sunburn.
