Uncivil Rights

Yes, the recent illegal immigrant protests annoyed me … it took an NPR commentary for me to solidify the reasons why …

Subject: Mr. Shore’s 4/12 Commentary

Daniel Shore’s commentary on “People Power” left out an important distinction between the French student revolts and illegal immigrant protests in the US.

The French students are citizens of the country, speaking out against a law passed by their country’s government. They are citizens participating in their government process.

The Mexican illegal immigrants are not citizens of the country they are protesting. They are citizens of another country who broke the law to come here and try to make their actions legal by trying to influence popular opinion.

If I were to go to China without a legal visa, stand outside of a government building, wave an American flag and ask them to change their laws … well, I expect I would be arrested & deported within the hour.

Americans protesting for civil rights in the 1950’s & 1960’s were asking their constitution be enforced, asking for the rule of law it established. If Mexicans want justice & equality, they can apply for legal citizenship in the US or protest their home government.

*compares the amount of comments on last post about illegal immigrants to the amount of comments on this post*

my, that definitely feels like an anvil that fell on the table… an excellent comparison indeed to solidify the reasons why amnesty for the illegal immigrants is not necessarily a good thing for this country and its citizens’ well being…
