Down The Drain

Long lines, confusion, short sighted officials, gallons of random liquids down the drain … looks like I picked a great year to stop flying for business.

The news is not news today, at least not to me. I’ve been to busy/annoyed with my job today to post anything lengthy about the recent “soda bottle bomb scare” from the UK, but it brings back everything I hated about the TSA as a “solution” to terrorism. This isn’t even a new idea for attacking aircraft.
The TSA doesn’t try to stop terrorists … the TSA tries to stop weapons. I’ve spent six years in martial arts learning how easily plowshares are turned to swords, so that approach never scored any points with me. Look into the history of martial arts and you’ll find 85% of “traditional weapons” are farm tools weilded by Okinawans disarmed by a Japanese occupation force.

Terror isn’t an enemy you wage war on, it’s a tactic. We have a good idea who the bad guys are, and it ain’t Starbucks. Remember that as you dump a four dollar latte into the trash can next to a security gate.

Note to new readers: I have a bit of history with airtravel & the TSA. It begins with my trip to Japan on 9/10/2001. There aren’t many entries about three hour waits, running through the airport in socks or never being stopped even though my briefcase contained a box wired to a circuit board … but I have spent many days in this world of illogical policies.
