First I go on the road trip, now it’s my wife’s turn. She & a friend are making a quick trip to New Orleans. Her goal is to snap lots’o’photos and be back by Tuesday. Meanwhile I take care of the animals and try to cross items off of my sabbatical chore list.
When I travel, I don’t often feel that weird emptiness that goes with being away from my wife for many days … I do miss her quite a lot, but it doesn’t hit me in any serious way. Last night I had that feeling, even though my wife is going on a short driving trip. Our theory is that the traveler is mentally occupied with the trip preparation, while the person left at home is left with bland prospects of the day-to-day routine.
But I have plenty to do, and she has plenty to see … life will be good for both of us the next few days. Tuesday night I’ll wait at home for my wife to bring me stories of the road.
