Busy Weekend

I’m staying pretty busy for someone who should be on vacation …

I got a phone call coming home from martial arts on Thursday night. Suzan has her own little photography & video business that she wants to grow into more than the occasional job. The call was from the owner of a dance studio who had no videographer for her recital on Saturday (canceled due to a death in the family). A friend referred us as she spent the week frantically looking for someone to cover the event.

The 1:30PM recital was no problem to cover, but covering the 6:30PM event would mean being late for our own house filk. Thanks to a few good friends who have been to the house before, we were able to outsource our filk for a few hours in the name of a paying gig. I spent Friday meeting with the new client, then had lunch with Rachel … unhurried lunches with friends are a huge bonus of sabbatical 🙂

Friday’s games night had a small crowd, but we had a lot of fun with Killer Bunnies & Munchkin. Our house was built for friends, so playing card games in the living room is a perfect use of the space.

Thanks to the last-minute video gig, Saturday went from relaxing and working on Dragon*ConTV to videotaping a really good dance recital. We watched the kid-wrangling from a safe distance, and admired quality routines from the group’s top dancers. It’s really easy for me & Suzan to capture good video when something good is happening in front of the camera.

We got to our own house filk just before 10:00PM. Music was played, food was consumed and people seemed to have a good time. We were low on guitar players, but that didn’t stop music from happening. People started to fade around midnight, leaving us with Joyce & Aaron who kept saying “we should go” until about 3:00AM when they actually did.

Sunday is now for extra sleep, washing dishes and moving dance video onto a 500GB SATA drive. Soon the editing will begin … right after I find some of last night’s chicken wings in the fridge.
