Last Day Strangeness

So here’s how strange the last of IDF is. After taking video of the various hacker case mods in Intel’s official “computer case art” display, I took a ride on a Segway scooter. The Segway sales rep was trying to get people interested so they’d pass the good word on to their companies (hoping to sell a few dozen to a corporate campus somewhere).

I don’t think the current financial climate is right for asking companies to plunk down $6,000 on a gyroscopic skateboard. But the thing is damn cool. If I can get one with off-road tires and a hay rack, I might buy one to use around the farm (that would really screw with the goats).

I’m waiting for the first lam3r to rice one of these things (blue neon glow underneath, racing stickers, mega-bass stereo).

So now, to top off the weirdness, I’m sitting in a conference room awaiting the appearance of William Shatner. He co-authored a book on technology that went from science fiction to science fact, so he’s making an appearance at IDF. I have no idea what this has to do with Intel Pentium4 technology, but what the hell … my flight doesn’t leave until tomorrow morning and I need something to do.

I will try to get Mr. Shatner to autograph a T.J. Hooker picture I downloaded from the Internet. That plan may never see the light of day, but it doesn’t hurt to try (unless he has very large security guards). At least I’ll get some interesting video …
