Tuesday morning … my home is filled with people. They are on the couch, on the guest beds, on the futon. It is just before noon, and I am the only person moving in the house.
Welcome to the day after Dragon*Con at the GeekFarm … sleeping off a successful Dragon*Con.
Dragon*Con 2006 currently sits in my mind, swirling around like someone trying to remember a good dream. Did I really spend five days running between three hotels? Did I spend hours acting as a “geek herder”, directing 2500+ people into a ballroom for Serenity & Stargate events? Did people really laugh at Dragon*ConTV like I remember?
Was it real? Was it really that much fun?
The post-convention routine is now fairly set in stone …
- load out the TechOps & Videography equipment on Monday afternoon
- escape the hotel before 8:00pm
- drive to Loganville
- cook dinner for the people crashing at my house
- spend hours on the porch going over the good, bad & ugly
- laugh at the silly things we did
- get to bed way too late
- take Tuesday off of work
Dragon*ConTV was just great. Our crew turned out great work that was well received, even if a few bits didn’t live up to their comedic potential. I now admit the monster I created has taken over part of my life and most of my basement … it is barely tamed but well fed & mostly controlable.
Despite some technical glitches and momentary fits of stress & profanity, this year went well for the Videography department. I have eight great staffers who did more than I asked, and would have done more if given a bit more time or equipment (thank you, thank you, thank you … please come back next year). I have tons of footage to watch, lots of things to edit and a desire to do it all again … right after I take a nap.
