I’m spending the weekend making music with friends, so it seems like a good time to reflect on making music while I travel.
World travel in the name of technology means I occasionally fall into jam sessions in new cities. I even managed to find one in a Madrid blues bar last year while on vacation. And then there’s Taipei … not a city you associate with jazz, but my expat friend Clas has managed to drop me into several good sessions.
Jazz Spot Swing lives below street level in Taipei, home to a nice piano and many bottles of whiskey. Three years ago I has the chance to play a beautiful mix of locals and visitors, reminding me how music connects people across cultures and borders.
